NUMBER OF PLAYERS

2-4

OBJECTIVE

The objective is to have the most points when the game ends.

DEAL

The first dealer is chosen randomly, and the turn to deal alternates if there are two players, and rotates clockwise if there are more than two.

  1. The dealer deals out seven cards to each player.
  2. The dealer places the rest of the cards in a face down pile between the players. This pile is called the stock pile.
  3. The dealer then places the top card from the stock pile face up on the table next to the stock pile to start the discard pile.
THE PLAY
  1. The players should organize the cards in their hands so that synonyms are grouped.
  2. Starting with the person left of the dealer, the player either picks up one or more cards from the discard pile or picks up one card from the stock pile. If a player picks up more than one card from the discard pile, she must meld a group of synonyms containing the bottom-most card.
  3. The player has the option of melding. Melding is taking a group of two or more synonyms from your hand, and placing it face up in front of you on the table, where it stays.
  4. The player also has the option of laying off. Laying off is adding a card or cards from your hand to a meld already on the table. Laid off cards are placed in front of the player who laid them off.
  5. The player finishes the turn by discarding a card.
ENDING THE GAME

The game ends when one player runs out of cards in his/her hand.

DETERMINING THE WINNER

The player with the highest score wins the game. Scores are calculated by adding the point values of all the cards they have played (melded or laid off) and then subtracting the point values of the cards left in their hands.

DEAL

All 52 cards are laid face down in rows and columns on the table.

THE PLAY
  1. Starting with the youngest player, the player turns over two cards (one at a time so that all players can see them) and keeps them if they are synonyms. If they successfully match a pair of synonyms, that player takes another turn.
  2. When a player turns over two cards that are not synonyms, those cards are turned face down again and the turn moves clockwise to the next player.
ENDING THE GAME

The game ends when all the cards have been taken.

DETERMINING THE WINNER

The winner is the player with the most sets of cards.

DEAL

The first dealer is chosen randomly, and the turn to deal alternates if there are two players, and rotates clockwise if there are more than two.

  1. The dealer deals out 7 cards to each player (5 cards if there are more than four players).
  2. The dealer places the rest of the cards in a face down pile between the players.
THE PLAY
  1. The players should organize the cards in their hands so that synonyms are grouped.
  2. Starting with the person left of the dealer, the player asks one other player for a specific synonym card.  To ask for a card, the player must hold one of its synonyms.  If the player gets the card asked for, he or she gets to ask again of the same player or a different player.  If the player does not get the card asked for, the player draws one card from the top of the deck.  If that card is the one asked for, the player gets to ask again.  If not, the turn moves clockwise to the next player.
  3. When a player gets a set of four synonyms, he or she must lay the set down on the table.
ENDING THE GAME

The game ends when one player runs out of cards.

DETERMINING THE WINNER

The winner is the player with the most sets of cards.
